    Individual Counselling

    When you’re feeling troubled by a situation at home, work, in your relationship, or how you feel about yourself and you’re struggling to move forward, it helps to reach out for assistance. Counselling offers you a private and confidential space to allow you time to work through any situation you may be having difficulty with. We help you seek clarity around your discomfort, explore choices you can make, and support you in taking action if you need to.

    Our clients tell us that although they may feel nervous before coming to counselling, their fears soon dissipate, and often report feeling like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders even after just one session.

    Couples Counselling

    blank

    Our relationship and couples counselling service shows you how to identify and change unhelpful communication patterns that have developed over time. You will learn the skills necessary to help you relate in a more respectful and assertive way, and to navigate problems through to their conclusion. These skills will ultimately have you improving your communication and connection, and will stand you in good stead for years to come.

    What would it be like if you could both learn how to:

    • Understand why you’re having so much trouble communicating;
    • Diffuse those annoying arguments that never seem to be resolved;
    • Communicate your needs in a respectful way so there’s a better chance of having them met;
    • Dissolve the anger and resentment that builds up over time and chips away at the very foundation of your relationship;

    So don’t push problems into the background and allow them to slowly build a rift between you that becomes too wide to recover

    Family Counselling

    Family members don’t usually have the intention to hurt each other, but it happens, and sometimes it’s hard to get past the wounding. If individual needs are not being met, or power imbalances are present, family tension can escalate into conflict. At times the tension has been around for many years, and unhealthy patterns of mis-communication have become entrenched. Working towards improvement requires skill in assertive communication, empathy, negotiation, compromise, and respect for each other’s position or point of view. If family members don’t have the skills required to create safe discussion, set boundaries or problem solve, then it’s wise to seek professional assistance to help repair the damage.

    Group counselling can be a great forum for all members to speak their point of view and feel heard in a safe environment. Participants are guided by a counsellor/facilitator and encouraged to work towards finding solutions. Family members also learn healthy, assertive communication skills along the way to assist them in creating more harmonious relationships in all areas of life.

      More information.

      A counsellor is a person trained to give professional guidance and support on personal,
      family, relationship, work or psychological issues. Although there is some overlap,
      counselling services can differ from those provided by other mental health professionals
      such as psychologists or psychiatrists. These latter professions are founded on scientific
      approaches specialising in diagnosis and treatment of emotional disturbance,
      behaviour problems and mental health disorders. Psychiatry stems from a medical
      discipline, therefore only psychiatrists are able to prescribe medication. Even though
      counsellors are informed by psychological practises, they use recognised therapeutic
      counselling approaches that support clients to explore their everyday life problems while
      guiding them to find their own workable solutions. Registered counsellors abide by the
      ethical practices and codes of conduct as set out by their regulatory counselling
      association.

      Our counselling services are not Medicare rebatable because only registered
      psychologists have been chosen by the Government. But please note that for rebate
      eligibility your doctor must do an assessment and make a diagnosis for a Mental Health
      Care Plan. The diagnosis is then recorded on the Government health system. This
      diagnosis may also have future implications whenever you are asked by organisations if
      you have ever had a mental health diagnosis, because by law you must disclose this
      information (e.g. to insurance companies). A mental health exclusion may be placed on
      policies such as income protection and travel insurance. Choosing a private counsellor
      ensures your mental health information remains confidential.

      Some private health insurance providers may include counselling under their ‘Extras’
      cover. You will need to check with your health fund provider to see if you qualify for any
      rebate.

      If for some reason your prepaid appointment needs to be rescheduled or cancelled, you
      have up to 30 days to rebook and utilise the appointment or request a refund before the
      credit lapses. This is subject to cancellation fee conditions for short notice. We will make
      one reminder call to rebook an appointment or organise a refund, but it is ultimately your
      responsibility to ensure your paid appointment is utilised. Counselling Resolutions does
      not have the accounting resources to monitor appointment credit for extended periods of
      time.

      You can book through our website for a phone or on-line Telehealth appointment if that is
      your preference. You will then receive a receipt with confirmation details. Your counsellor
      will email you a link for the on-line sessions before your appointment commences.

      Our counsellors are qualified members of professional associations that are bound by a
      code of ethics and confidentiality. This means that unless there is some risk of harm to
      yourself or others, or your counsellor’s session notes are subpoenaed by a court of law,
      we must respect your confidentiality. So, other than the afore mentioned, what is divulged
      in a session stays with your counsellor. If notes are taken by your counsellor, they will
      always be kept in a secure and locked location and can only be accessed by them.

      Generally, Counselling Resolutions retains the records for 5 years, but also reserves the
      right to responsibly dispose of records at any time after counselling has ceased.

      Communication is the key for you to experience the best possible outcomes. We
      encourage you to talk to your counsellor if you’re not feeling comfortable, or if you have
      any special needs that you feel aren’t being addressed. As trained professionals it is our
      intention to provide you with a safe, supportive and relaxed environment, and to work with
      you to alleviate any concerns you may have.

      Adult conversation is not appropriate for children's ears. Therefore children are not
      permitted to attend appointments. There is also no duty of care if your children sit in our
      unattended waiting areas, so this is not advised. For the best counselling outcomes and to
      allow for essential “you time”, please make suitable arrangements with other caregivers
      before proceeding with attendance. Your counsellor can help you find professional
      childcare if you are not able to organise your own.
